Barnsdall baseball extends streak to 7 games

The Barnsdall Panther baseball team extended its winning streak to seven games with wins over Pawnee, Wesleyan Christian and Woodland last week. They are now 14-6.

The Panthers hosted Newkirk at 4:10 p.m. Tuesday. They play Woodland at Fairfax on Thursday.

Barnsdall 6, Woodland 4

Barnsdall used a five-run fifth to rally from a 2-1 deficit to Woodland. The Panthers held off a bottom of the seventh Woodland rally to pick up a 6-4 win.

Wesley Yarber pitched 6.2 innings for the Panthers. He allowed four runs on eight hits. He struck out nine and walked three. Michael Marin got the final out, a strike out.

Braden Kelley picked up two RBI. Michael Marin scored twice, and picked up an RBI. Joseph Cole, James Cole, Yarber and Christian Minton also picked up RBIs.

Barnsdall trailed 2-1 heading into the top of the fifth. Keegan Marin was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Reese Robbins singled to advance Marin to third. Marin scored on Minton’s grounder to second. Minton was safe on an error. Robbins advanced to second. Robbins reached third on a passed ball, and Minton moved to second. Braden Kelley reached on an error on a fly to right, and advanced to second. Robbins and Minton scored. Kelley stole third, and Michael Marin drew a walk to put runners at the corners. Joseph Cole was intentionally walked to load the bases. James Cole hit a sacrifice fly to center, which scored Kelley. Marin scored on Yarber’s single.

Barnsdall 14, Wesleyan Christian 11

Barnsdall trailed 11-10 heading into the top of the seventh. The Panthers scored four runs and held Wesleyan Christian scoreless in the bottom of the frame to capture the 14-11 win.

James Cole scored four runs, and drove in two with a 4-for-5 performance. Christian Minton scored three times as did Michael Marin. Keegan Marin went 2-for-5 and plated three.

The Panthers used four pitchers in the game. Joseph Cole started and went 2.1 innings. Michael Marin went two innings with Minton going one. Braden Kelley pitched the final 1.2 innings.

In the top of the seventh, Minton drew a walk and stole second. Kelley reached on an error and Minton moved to third. Kelley stole second. Michael Marin was intentionally walked to load the bases. Minton scored on Joseph Cole’s fly ball to center. James Cole plated Kelley and Marin with a triple to center. James Cole scored on a hard grounder to third by Wilson Yarber. The ball was misplayed by the third baseman.

Barnsdall 11, Pawnee 0

Barnsdall pitcher Wesley Yarber tossed a no-hitter in the 11-0 four-inning victory over Pawnee.

Barnsdall scored three in the first, one in the second, four in the third and three in the fourth.

Yarber struck out five and didn’t issue any walks. He needed just 55 pitches and 36 went for strikes. He only faced 12 batters in the game. A double-play helped Yarber in the top of the second after a Pawnee batter reached on an error. In the top of the fourth, Yarber picked off a runner at first, who had reached on an error.

At the plate, James Cole and Reese Robbins collected doubles and Michael Marin added a triple. Joseph Cole scored three runs on a 1-for-2 day at the plate. He also drew a walk. Keegan Marin picked up two RBIs.
