2 PHS wrestlers reach state tourney
Two Pawhuska High School wrestlers have advanced to the Class 3A state tournament this weekend at the State Fairgrounds Arena in Oklahoma City.
Huskies wrestler Price Perrier took first place at the Class 3A regionals in Vinita in the 132 pound weight class. Teammate Ryan Parks finished second in the 120-pound division.
Parks and Perrier are juniors.
The Huskies finished 12 in the team standings with 59. points. Vinita won the regionals with 187.5 points, while Salina nabbed second with 148 points.
The state tournament starts Friday.
Parks (21-5) will face Comanche High’s Jaxon Miller, (36-10) in the first round of the 120-pound division.
Perrier (10-3) has a first-round bye. He will face the winner of the Kolby DePron (33-3) of Bridge Creek and Jarod Thompson (27-9) of Newkirk match in the 132-pound division.
In the East Regional, Perrier received a first-round bye. In the quarterfinals, he pinned Logan Shropsire of Checotah at the 4:54 mark. In the semifinals, he recorded a 12-2 major decision over James Bruce of Hulbert. In the finals, Perrier picked up a 7-6 win over Wesley Scott of Pawnee.
Parks road to the finals also included a first-round bye. He pinned Leo Ferigrino of Jay at 3:01 in the quarterfinals, and captured a 12-2 major decision over Dylan Brown in the semifinals. Berryhill’s Saige Martin picked up a 6-2 over Parks in the finals.
The Huskies took Landon McCartney, R.J. McCann and Bryce Drummond to the regionals. McCann picked up a 14-4 major decision over Jayden Goins of Vinita in the 152-pound opener. He was pinned by Cade Shropsire of Checotah in the quarterfinals. McCann pined Dominic Monhatwa of Newkirk at the 1:52 mark in consolation road 2. Barnsdall’s Joe Smith pinned McCain at 1:43 to end McCain’s journey.
McCartney was pinned twice at 106 pounds, and Drummond once at 182 pounds.
