PHS seeks softball, wrestling, baseball coach

For the past six seasons, Brian Edwards brought stability and motivation to the Pawhuska High School sports program.

But, his time in Huskieland has ended.

Edwards accepted a position with the Wagoner schools, where he will serve as an assistant in softball, wrestling and baseball.

He had served as Pawhuska’s coach in those same three sports.

“I’ll be able to go in and just coach,” Edwards said Sunday during a phone conversation with the E-E. “This is a good move for me. … They offered me a position and I decided to take it.”

Edwards worked hard at Pawhuska to try to restore the winning softball and baseball tradition.

In wrestling, he coached a state champion (Levi Youngwolfe) last year, as well as some other state qualifiers and high regional placers.

“With the wrestling program, we were starting to turn around,” he said. “It’s tough to leave those kids.”

Edwards is most gratified for his time at Pawhuksa by “just the development inside these kids, not just as athletes, but into young men and women going into the next chapter of their lives. It’s nice just being able to see them become productive citizens and try to better themselves.”

Edwards guided last year’s Huskie baseball team to a winning (14-11) record and powerful reputation.

The Huskies swept Pawnee in the Class 2A district playoffs, but then ran into the state’s No. 1-ranked Oktaha powerhouse in the regional and were eliminated.
