On the rain-soaked soccer field at Tulsa Webster Stadium was an ideal place for the Pawhuska Lady Huskies to end their recent scoring drought.

In Thursday’s match, the Pawhuska High School squad made two goals — which was more than enough against its District 4A-8 foe, the Webster Lady Warriors.

After failing to score points in back-to-back outings, the Lady Huskies successfully turned things around with a 2-0 shutout that put them back in the hunt for a spot in the state playoffs.

Just two evenings earlier, the PHS girls had suffered a crushing district defeat at Miami — losing to the Lady Wardogs, 4-0. (They also were shut out the previous Thursday in a non-district home match versus Newkirk.)

Miami built a three-goal lead in the opening half of Tuesday’s match, which was played on the turf at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M’s Red Robertson Field.

Back on the road for Thursday’s match on the soggy turf in West Tulsa, senior McKenzie Fortney finally put the ball in the net for Pawhuska. The Lady Huskie goal came midway through the opening half, ending a PHS scoreless period that lasted more than two hours and extended over four matches.

PHS freshman Avery Perritt added a second

The Lady Huskies are to play here Friday against the Commerce Lady Tigers, who are to visit Ormand Beach Stadium for a district match starting aty 6:30 p.m.

April 11, the Northeast Academy team will be at Beach Stadium for a 5:30 p.m. nondistrict battle.
