Several Huskies included on All-Area football squad

Several Pawhuska High School athletes were included on the 2016 All-Area Football Team named last week by the Bartlesville Examiner-Enterprise.

PHS slotback/defensive back Warren Graves shared the E-E’s All-Area Athlete of the Year honors with Nowata’s Will Luster. Graves scored a dozen touchdowns last season — six on pass receptions, three rushing and three off returns (which included a kickoff, a fumble and an interception he ran back 100 yards).

John BigHorse was chosen as a first-team All-Area defensive lineman.

Caleb Bruce earned a selection as All-Area running back, second-team.

Tyler Wilson was named All-Area defensive back (third-team). Wilson had previously been honored as the District 2A-1 Quarterback of the Year. Over the course of the season, Wilson three interceptions, returned one for a touchdown.

All-Area honorable mentions were extended to Huskies Levi Youngwolfe and Ben Gray.

Pawhuska’s All-Area honorees were all seniors.

Barnsdall junior quarterback James Cole was named as the All-Area Most Valuable Player.

Dewey running back Hunter Brewer was the All-Area team’s Offensive Player of the Year.

Joe Cole of Barnsdall edged out Pawhuska defensive lineman Hunter Reed for All-Area Freshman of the Year honors. Another Barnsdall freshman, Michael Marin, was an All-Area running back selection.

Another Osage County athlete, Zaven Collins of Hominy, was a first-team selection at defensive back on the Daily Oklahoman’s 104th All-State football team. Collins, a senior star who also played quarterback, led the Bucks to an undefeated season and the Oklahoma Class A State Championship.
