Tucker sets pace in Cleveland meet

CLEVELAND — Pawhuska High School distance runner Tristen Tucker rocketed to a second-place finish Thursday at the Cleveland Cross Country Meet.

Competing over a newly-laid out course south of town at Feyodi Park, the PHS senior finished just nine second behind the winner, senior Travis Black of Dewey. Black clocked a time of 18:26 and Tucker completed the 5-kilometer distance was 18:35.

Pawhuska’s Sam West crossed the finish line 40th in a time of 21:59. Other Huskies in the race included Devyn Mathes (22:53, 56th), Daneal Parks (23:04, 59th), Payton McCarty (23:16, 63rd) and Ryan Parks (25:46, 90th). There were 108 entries in the meet’s varsity boys’ competition.

Rayven Stone topped Lady Huskie runners in the 3.2-kilometer varsity girls’ event. She placed 40th in a time of 18:15. PHS’s Aubrie Walker was 64th (18:43), followed by Abby Nightengale (21:45, 64th), Kaiti Moen (22:32, 65th), Madelyn Priest (22:33, 66th), Allison Richardson (22:39, 67th), Star Sweeden (22:40, 68th), Avery Perritt (22:50, 45th), Kallista DaGenais (23:03, 76th) and Alexis Bighorse (23:13, 77th).

In the 1.6-kilometer junior high boys’ race, Jack Long placed 26th for Pawhuska in a time of 6:40, with Dalton Hurd (6:44, 29th) and Dallin Richardso (6:50, 33rd) not far behind. Cooper Kyler (7:25, 61st) and A.J. Solian0 (7:39, 68th) also competed for the Huskies. There were 120 runners in the JH boys division.

The Lady Huskie girls finished sixth as a team and the PHS boys team came in 10th overall. Debra Richardson is Pawhuska’s cross-country coach.
