OU kicker, Siebert, doesn’t report
NORMAN (TNS) — When the members of the Oklahoma football team reported to preseason camp Sunday, punter/kicker Austin Seibert wasn’t among them.
The Sooners opened camp Monday.
An academic issue with the university is part of the delay in Seibert’s arrival.
SoonerScoop.com first reported Seibert not being among the players who reported.
Seibert, who is expected to arrive at camp “soon,” was not enrolled at OU this summer and was therefore not allowed to participate in summer workouts.
He’s appeared in 26 career games, making 29 of 39 field goals and averaging 41.6 yards per punt.
Last Chance U reportedly filming season of JUCO commit
OU fans might get a more in-depth look at Tramonda Moore earlier than expected.
Before the offensive lineman arrives in Norman, he’ll play a final season at Independence Community College, which is reportedly the focus of Last Chance U’s third season, according to the Garden City Telegram.
The Netflix series focused on East Mississippi Community College in Scooba, Mississippi, for the last two seasons.
After signing with Oklahoma State from John Marshall, Moore didn’t meet academic requirements to join the Cowboys after high school. Instead, he signed with Independence and headed there to work on his associate degree.
He committed to OU in June and is on track to graduate with an associate degree in December.
By the time he’s expected to arrive in Norman, he’ll have traveled a long road to get there. With the filming of Last Chance U, there’s a chance that part of that will be available to watch before his first season at OU.
Lamb’s path to OU might become new normal
On Sunday, CeeDee Lamb reported for OU’s preseason camp.
There was a time, however, when that didn’t seem likely that Lamb would wind up in Norman.
After committing to OU as a sophomore in December 2015, Lamb decommitted from the Sooners just four months later as the wide receiver’s recruitment picked up steam.
“CeeDee made the choice to open it back up and look around, I was fine with that,” outside wide receivers coach Dennis Simmons said recently. “In fact, I kind of encouraged it because I know playing college football is not easy.”
Lamb remained a free agent for just a couple more months until he recommitted to OU in July 2016.
This kind of recruiting saga didn’t used to be the norm, but Simmons isn’t surprised at how it all went down.
“With the early signing period and recruiting evolving to as early as it is, I think it’s going to be a common thing,” he said. “You’ve got guys that in the ninth grade want offers. I don’t even know if I’ll be here by the time you’re a senior. For me to expect that kid not to get bored when all of his other buddies are getting recruited when he’s made a decision, for him not to want to go around and see something else, then that’s just dumb.”
OU had two wide receivers from the 2019 class decommit this spring. Arjei Henderson ended up committing to Oregon, but Theo Wease, who decommitted from OU in April, was in Norman for the Champ U BBQ on Saturday.
Sunday night, Wease put OU in a list of 11 schools that he was considering.
