Pawhuska High School wrestlers lost to Inola 42-30 in a close dual Jan. 5, coming down to the last two matches, but then rebounded and beat Newkirk, 49-22, Thursday night, Jan. 7.

Pawhuska sent the girls' wrestling team to Inola, where it crowned a champion at 112 pounds, Landon McCartney. Also placing were Marion McCartney at 118 pounds with a strong third-place finish, and Tennessee McCartney finishing sixth 157 pounds.

The Huskies wrestled a tough Cushing Tournament this past weekend with only a few days of practice under their belts due to COVID-19 issues. Pawhuska still managed to bring back a medal at 195 pounds, with Lesharo Wildcat finishing fifth.

PHS entered this week facing Sperry and Holland Hall at home at 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, and then traveling to Sand Springs on Friday for the Jerry Billings Invitational Tournament.

Pawhuska Is battling this season and is looking very tough, given the circumstances due to the pandemic. We expect to have great success as the season continues. I have a great group of kids who are willing to put in the work to have a successful season.
