Pawhuska defeats Tonkawa, 48-7
Pawhuska defeated the Tonkawa Buccaneers, 48-7, on Friday to raise their season record to 6-0. The Huskies are scheduled to face Drumright this Friday at 7 p.m. for the annual Football Homecoming.
Pawhuska’s junior quarterback, Bryce Drummond, had another productive night against Tonkawa, hitting on 18 of 28 passes for 344 yards and four touchdowns. Seven different receivers caught passes from Drummond during the victory, but Mason Gilkey and Easton Kirk were his primary targets.
Kirk caught seven passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns, while Gilkey caught four passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns.
Kirk also rushed for 55 yards and two touchdowns, and passed for eight more yards against Tonkawa, giving him a 214-yard, four-touchdown night overall. Gilkey has six touchdown receptions in the past two games.
Drummond, who caught Kirk’s pass, also rushed for 87 yards on 12 carries for two touchdowns. The Huskies put up 352 passing yards, 147 rushing yards and another 29 kickoff return yards for the evening.
A year ago in Pawhuska, the Huskies lost a narrow, 13-12, decision to the Buccaneers. This time, they returned the favor on Tonkawa’s home field.
Drumright, the Huskies’ homecoming opponent, lost 59-0 to Barnsdall on Sept. 13 in a game played at Drumright. Drumright has also lost 62-0 to Tonkawa and 54-0 to Hominy.
The Huskies are scheduled to be at Hominy on Oct. 17 before returning home Oct. 24 against the Union High School sophomores. Pawhuska will be off on Halloween before playing host Nov. 8 to Pawnee. The Black Bears are 5-0 so far and scheduled to be at 4-1 Hominy this Friday. Pawnee, which defeated Pawhuska last season, beat Tonkawa 22-6 in a Sept. 27 game at Pawnee.
