Pawhuska track teams finish high at Inola

The Pawhuska High School boys and girls track and field teams posted high finishes last Thursday at the Inola High School Invitational meet.

The PHS boys finished second with 84 team points, trailing only Catoosa in a field of 14 teams. The PHS girls tied for third place overall with Adair at 87 points each in a field of 14 teams.

Pawhuska got off to a strong start in the track events, with the boys 4X100 meter relay team taking a first place and the girls 4X100 meter relay team taking a third place. The boys would go on to take a first place in the 4X400 meters, as well.

Strong individual performances Thursday included Mason Gilkey and Evan Frye finishing first and second, respectively, in the boys 400 meter dash, and Haley Grooms taking second in both the girls 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash. Andrez Ramirez took third in the boys 200 meter dash.

Lynnlea McGuire was first in the girls discus and Bryce Drummond was first in the boys discus. Shelby Laird finished first in the girls shot put. Tre Harper was third in the boys pole vault.
