Pawhuska girls learn skills at Northern Oklahoma College

Ali Baldwin, Kyleigh Dawson, Briana Hogue and Josie Yates attended the recent Northern Oklahoma College Girls Basketball Camp for grades 3-6.
Baldwin placed second with Baylee Stewart of Newkirk and Jenna Northcutt of Ponca City in the 5-6 grade three-on-three competition. She played for the Liberty team, which placed second in roadrunner relay.
Hogue helped the Mystics win first in speed dribble and third in two-ball relays. Dawson played for the Fever, and Yates played for the Aces.
A total of 67 athletes from 15 area schools and from South Haven, Kan., Udall, Kan. and Cypress, Texas, attended the week-long camp directed by Greg Krause, head coach for the Northern Lady Mavs. They worked on mass drills, station drills and team transition offense skills, including work on floor balance, filling lanes, court spacing, advancing the ball and good shot selection. Campers participated in one-on-one, two-on-two and three-on-three drills, hot shot and free throw contests, and league games.
At an awards assembly concluding the camp, Krause presented individual competition first-place trophies, team and individual place ribbons, and Outstanding Player award plaques. Members of first-place league teams each received a T-shirt printed with the team name and year. Each girl received a certificate of participation, an evaluation of her skills from her camp coach, two camp T-shirts and a camp basketball.
Carey Phariss, assistant Lady Mavs coach, aided Krause with the camp. Also assisting were former Lady Mavs Jessica Bond, Locust Grove; Haley Curfman, Blackwell; Sydney Ellis, Lawton, now playing for Cameron University; and Kylee Severin, Goltry, former Southwestern Christian University player.
Others included Jackson Jacobs, Tonkawa; Andi McGill, Marietta, Southwestern Christian University player; and incoming Lady Mavs Mia Brown, Mustang; Charsy Johnson, Hollis; Nikale Maciel, Moore; Jaiden Biddy, Pawnee; and Hannah Maples, Ringwood.
