Youth basketball camps offered next 2 Saturdays
Walk-up participants will be welcome at two upcoming basketball camps being sponsored by Pawhuska Youth Sports, officials of the camps said.
Nationally-recognized college coach Jim Rowland is conducting an elementary-level camp for girls from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Saturday, June 11, at the Pawhuska High School gymnasium. Cost is $50 per girl.
Rowland, a Pawhuska native, is the highly successful head coach of Northeastern Oklahoma A&M’s Lady Norse basketball team.
Justin Barkley, head coach of the Rogers State College Hillcats, will conduct the boys’ camp at PHS next Saturday, June 18. It also lasts from 8 to 5 at a cost of $50 per boy.
The youths participating in the camps should have been in grades two through six during the recently-concluded school term, officials added.
In addition to receiving professional instruction on fundamentals of basketball, the campers will get lunch and a camp T-shirt. Other collegiate coaches and players — as well as members of the PHS Huskies/Lady Huskies basketball squads — are going to be providing assistance with the camps.
