Area students enjoy Big T Football Camp

More than 80 first- through sixth-graders turned out last Saturday for Big T’s Youth Football Camp, a first-ever event at Ormand Beach Memorial Stadium.

Temperatures near the century mark provided an excellent segueway for the blue-ribbon staff of coaches to remind participants about safety-related issues — which, along with football fundamentals, was one of the key areas being stressed at the camp.

The Big T staff included former OU standout quarterback Thomas Lott, and former All-America players Mark Moore, Mike Hudson, and Tony and Terry Peters. PHS soccer coach Giovanni Soliano even provided an impromptu clinic on placekicking.

“Everything went really well and should help give us something to build on in the future,” said longtime local youth-leagues coach Joe Tillman, who organized the event in conjunction with USA Football and the Heads Up Coaching Association.
