Huskies scheduled to begin football workouts on Monday
Football practices for the Pawhuska High School and junior high teams will start Monday, July 27, at Ormand Beach Memorial Stadium.
Following a mandatory team meeting at 5 p.m. Monday, the Huskies are to go through their first pre-season workout session at 6 p.m., PHS coaches said. Shoulder pads will be checked out to the players at the conclusion of Monday’s practice, coaches added.
(The coaches are reminding local players and their parents that all necessary paperwork (i.e. physical-examination forms, emergency-contact information, etc.) should be filled out in advance of Monday’s team meeting.)
Current plans call for Pawhuska’s grid squads to continue holding 6 p.m. workouts every weekday — Monday through Friday — until the prep football practice season officially opens statewide on Aug. 10. Full-pad workouts begin Friday, Aug. 14.
The need for extra workouts is partly related to a revamped system of offense being installed under new Pawhuska head coach Joe Sindelar. Another reason: the earlier-than-usual start of the 2015-16 school year, coaches said. Local students will begin classes on Thursday, Aug. 20.
Intensified practice sessions are deemed as “vital” to the Huskies being “game-ready” for the upcoming season. The PHS regular schedule kicks off Friday, Sept. 4, with a home game versus the Verdigris Cardinals.
