2014 Cavalcade results in several all-time marks

Each summer since 1947, the International Roundup Clubs’ Cavalcade has provided a stage on which amateur rodeo performers can display their skills.

Last year, more than 900 contestants from over 100 area clubs participated in the annual event at the Osage County Fairgrounds Arena. Heavy rains in the middle of the week brought mixed blessings of muddy conditions and milder temperatures for the 68th-consecutive Cavalcade, which saw the establishment of several all-time marks.

Taylor White of Bartlesville, representing the Owasso Roundup Club, was named Cavalcade Queen for 2014-15 following the closest judging in the 68 years of the contest.

After placing second for the previous year’s title, White edged Ponca City’s Lauren Hadley of the Sisco Kids by a single point in the Queen’s Horsemanship competition — and that ultimately provided her with a margin of victory. Shiloh Martin from the Pawhuska Roping and Riding Club finished third in the Queen’s race, while Ketrina Koons of Pawhuska Range Riders was among the five candidates (out of 13 total entries) to be selected as finalists.

The 4-Bar Roundup Club earned Cavalcade’s Best All Around Club honors for a second year in a row, as well as for the record 14th time in the event’s history.

Based around the Yale area, 4-Bar won the first of its titles in the second year of the club’s existence. Finishing as runnerup for 2014 was the Owasso Roundup Club, which has accumulated the second-most titles all-time, with 12. Skiatook RUC placed third among the clubs. Judges at Saturday’s parade selected 4 Bar RUC as the first-place entry, Owasso RUC for No. 2 and Nuyaka RUC in the third spot. Other top finishes for the winning 4-Bar club came in the Chuck Wagon Race and Wild Cow Milking competition.

Addie Weil of the Edna (Kan.) Roundup Club was the only double-winner of 2014 as she raced to junior championships in Pole Bending and Girls Flags. One repeat champion was crowned in the Junior Boys Flag event: Codee John Tarlton of Added Money RUC.
