The four-week summer league softball season got underway Tuesday for the Pawhuska High School Lady Huskies.

Cleveland was site for the opening series, with the Lady Huskies slated to play games against the host Lady Tigers and the Dewey Lady Doggers. Other league contests were slated in Ramona (with Caney Valley hosting Sperry and Chelsea) and Salina (the Lady Wildcats at home with Chouteau and Foyil).

This Thursday, Pawhuska heads to Ramona for a 9 a.m. game with Caney Valley and a 10 a.m. contest against Chouteau. Next week, the Lady Huskies travel to Chelsea on Tuesday for meetings with Salina at 10 and the Lady Dragons at 11.

On Thursday, June 11, PHS will host the first of its two summer-league series at the McKenzie Street softball diamond (adjacent to Beach Memorial Stadium). The Lady Huskies are to play the Caney Valley Lady Trojans in the 9 a.m. game, with Caney Valley meeting Chelsea at 10 a.m. Pawhuska will meet the Lady Green Dragons in the 11 a.m. finale.

The 2015 Lady Huskie squad is to be coached by Danny Chronister. It will include a solid group of veterans from last season’s Class 3A District-champion squad that graduated only one starter.

Tuesday and Thursday morning doubleheaders will continue in the league through June. Pawhuska’s schedule will have the Lady Huskies at Sperry on Tuesday, June 16 — versus Salina at 10 and the Lady Pirates at 11. On Thursday, June 18, PHS plays a doubleheader against the host Cleveland Lady Tigers at 9 and 10 a.m. The Lady Huskies play at Dewey on Tuesday, June 23, against the Lady Doggers at 9 a.m. and Foyil at 10.

For the Thursday, June 25, summer-league finale, the PHS girls will host Cleveland for a 9 a.m. showdown and — following a Cleveland vs. Foyil matchup at 10 — will wrap things up with an 11 a.m. contest against Foyil’s Lady Panther squad.
