Huskies to face Patriots in District tests

The Pawhuska Huskies baseball team will take on the No. 5-ranked Metro Christian Academy Patriots in its Class 3A district series Friday. Winner advances to a four-team Regional competition and the loser is eliminated.

Starting time for Game One is 2 p.m. to be played on the Patriots’ home field in Tulsa. Game Two should get underway around 4:30 p.m. and a third game (if necessary) would be held Saturday. The MCA campus is located at 6363 S. Trenton Ave.

Metro Christian will be coming in with a record of 15-2. Pawhuska fell to 3-16 on the year following a 5-4 home loss to the Hominy Bucks in Monday’s regular-season finale.

Through four innings, PHS and Hominy were even at a run apiece . The visitors then went ahead, 5-1, in the top of the fifth, but Dalton Lough and Hayden Javellas scored in the home half of the inning — cutting the lead to two.

The Tulsa private school’s losses were on 04/10/15 to VERDIGRIS (3A-# 1) at Cushing Tournament 3-4 L Final (Extra innings) and 03/12/15 to 4A WAGONER by 1-2 (also in Extra Innings)

03/19/15 beat CUSHING (4A-# 6) @ Verdigris/ Metro Tournament, 4-0, where also defeated Class 5A TAHLEQUAH 03/21/15 @ Metro/Verdigris Tournament, 3-1. Winners by shutout in eight games, allowed only 1 run in three others.

PHS defeated Salina, 14-13, in round one of last year’s Regional at Verdigris before losing to the eventual state champion host Cardinals, 16-0, then fell 15-5 to Salina in the consolations.

Metro Christian competed in 4A baseball last year, finishing 29-7. Lost to Checotah in Area, then Checotah lost to Dewey, 8-3, in state tourney ?semifinals?

Class A and B District baseball tournaments are to be completed no later than Saturday, April 25. Shidler will be site of the Class B District 13 tournament that includes the Tigers, Frontier and Medford. The District B-30 tourney also will be in Osage County, as Prue hosts Oaks and Regent Prep. Copan and Bluejacket are going to Welch for the B Class District 31 competition.

The Class A District 25 tourney is to be be contended at Barnsdall, with the Panthers hosting Rejoice Christian and South Coffeyville. Woodland and Glencoe will vie for A class District 27 title at Morrison.

Class A and B Regional tournaments will be held on April 30 and May 1, with quarter- and semi-final games set May 7-8-9 and the A and B finals slated for Saturday, May 9, at Oklahoma City’s Bricktown Ballpark.

The championship tournaments for Classes 2A, 3A and 4A are set for Thursday through Saturday, May 14-16. Finals of Class 3A and 2A will be played at Edmond Santa Fe High School and the 4A championship will be decided at Mustang High School. The Mustang HS field also will be site of Class 5A’s final, while the 6A title game will be played at David Allen Memorial Ballpark in Enid.
