CLAREMORE — Four teams of Osage County ranch hands will be competing this weekend in the 10th-annual Green Country Classic Ranch Rodeo.

Sixteen area ranches — including Osage County’s Buford Ranches, Chambers & Ford Drummond Ranches, Gray G Bar Ranch and Stierwalt Ranch — are scheduled to compete in the five classic ranch rodeo events: Ranch Bronc Riding, Stray Gathering, Team Doctoring, Calf Branding and Sorting.

The event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday at the Claremore Expo Center. There also will be trade shows in conjunction with both days’ rodeos. Plus, a JRRA junior ranch rodeo is scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. The winner of GCCRR will automatically qualify to compete in the WRCA Ranch Rodeo National Finals that will be held this fall in Amarillo, Texas.

Green Country Classic Ranch Rodeo was started in 2006 to showcase the skills and lifestyle of ranchers in northeastern Oklahoma. Event organizers have developed a scholarship fund for high school seniors whose parents compete on the ranch teams, as well as the Cowboy Crisis Fund for area ranchers or their family members who are experiencing difficulties.
