The Osage Steer Roping Club’s 2015 season opened last weekend with the Shane Hudson Memorial event held at Bar K Arena, southwest of town.

Darren Suit of Ames won the championship buckle in the A division after posting the best average time for Sunday. Pawhuska’s Shorty Garten had recorded the lowest average on Saturday.

Winning one of the Saturday go-rounds was Chet Herren of Pawhuska, who was runner-up for last year’s Professional Rodeo Cowboy’s Association Steer Roping Title.

Pawhuskan Dee Kyler won an A division go-round Sunday when he roped the fastest steer of the weekend in 11.5 seconds. A total of 56 area ropers participated in the two-day event.

Bobby Brock of Cushing earned the B division winner’s buckle by leading in the average both Saturday and Sunday. In the C division, Robert Fudge of Skiatook was the Saturday winner for average and claimed the first-place buckle over Sunday’s average leader, Nick Carter of Wynona.

Next OSRC roping event will be at Bar K on April 11-12, sponsored by stock contractor Nick Simmons of Colcord. The Ted Wells Memorial Roping is set for Saturday and Sunday, April 25-26, also at the Kyler Ranch arena. Following a May 16-17 event in Wynnewood, Osage ropers action returns to Bar K with the Ed Goad Memorial Roping on May 30-31.

Bar K Arena’s biggest annual event, the Shoat Webster Classic, is scheduled for Sunday, June 21 — on the day after the Ben Johnson Memorial Steer Roping at Osage County Fairgrounds brings the country’s top professional ropers to town.

Osage Steer Roping Club will hold Friday-Saturday ropings at the Kyler arena on July 10-11 (the Jack Lucas Memorial) and Aug. 7-8, with the Jason Dilbeck Memorial.

The OSRC Finals are to be at the Bar K on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 18-19.
