Pawhuska mixed martial artist Chance Rencountre is scheduled for a C3 Championship fight Saturday night at 7 Clans First Council Casino Hotel in Newkirk.

Rencountre — who is undefeated after five professional MMA bouts — will be facing Mike Jackson of Norman in the main event of an eight-fight card.

A 2005 graduate of Pawhuska High School, Rencountre wrestled for the Huskies and then became a junior college All-American at Labette, Kan., Community College. He also compiled a 16-match win streak during his final collegiate mat season at Fort Hays State in 2009-10.

The Pawhuskan’s last MMA appearance was part of an Oklahoma Fighting Championship event at Lucky Star Casino in Concho. In that fight, Rencountre scored a second-round technical knockout over Zac “The Punisher” Kelly of Seminole. Kelly will be one of the fighters listed on Saturday’s undercard, with others including former Oklahoma State All-American Jamal Parks, Newkirk’s Tyler Shinn, Archie Lowe of Ponca City, Markus Kincaid from Blackwell and a pair of Tonkawans, Jose Martinez and Dalton Goddard.

Since his November fight, Rencountre has been training at the Alliance Gym in Chula Vista, Calif. A 29-year-old who usually weighs in at around 175 pounds, he also compiled an 8-0 record as an amateur MMA fighter. The fighter’s ring nickname is “Black Eagle,” which is derived from his tribal name as a member of the Osage Nation.

The Saturday night MMA event will begin at 8 p.m. in the events center of the casino, which is located on U.S. Highway 77 a few miles south of the Kansas state line.
