Chisholm High School in Enid will provide the course for Pawhuska High School runners to compete on in Saturday’s Oklahoma Class 3A Regional Cross Country meet.

Starting time is set at 10 a.m. for the 3A girls and the 3A boys will get going at 10:45. Fifteen schools are listed to compete at the Regional. In addition to PHS and the host teams from Chisholm, they include ASTEC, Cascia Hall, Chandler, Chelsea, OKC Dove Science, Hennessey, Jones, Luther, Oklahoma Bible Academy, Oklahoma Centennial, Oklahoma Christian School, Perry and Victory Christian.

Pawhuska’s Huskie and Lady Huskie teams are coached by Stacy Bigeagle, who has successfully revived the cross country program in Pawhuska schools. After being dropped for more than a decade, there were at least a dozen runners out for each of this year’s teams.

At a tune-up meet in Chisholm last Saturday, the Huskies were ninth in the overall team standings, with sophomore Tristen Tucker the top individual finisher — at 47th (with a 5K time of 20:22.28). Freshman Abbie Cox, in 111th place, topped the Lady Huskie squad, which placed 11th.

Aubrie Walker, a freshman, had been leading the way for the Lady Huskies earlier in the year. At a recent meet in Cleveland, PHS junior Kaylee Hambright finished sixth overall (with a 2.1-mile time of 15:43), while junior Haley Mouser came in 15th. In the boys’ 5K meet at Cleveland, Pawhuska sophomore Mattheu Rector placed 36th and Tucker was 45th. and freshman Tyrae Walker set the pace for the PHS boys.
