Opening grid game September 5 at Verdigris

Pawhuska High School’s 2014 football schedule shows several new opponents for the Huskies, who should find familiar footing in making their two-year return to Oklahoma Class 2A’s reorganized District 8.

Season predictions released recently by VYPE Football Magazine pick the Huskies fourth among the seven teams of District 2A-8. A pair of stout PHS seniors — Tyler Reese and Marshall Tolson — are designated for pre-season accolades.

Reese, a 6-1, 235-pounder who is tabbed for double-duty on the lines, was chosen as the featured player for the district. Tolson, at 6-4 and 225, is one of four 2A linebackers named to the VYPE All-Star team.

Equipment checkouts were conducted Tuesday evening for PHS varsity and junior high players. Restricted practices begin next Monday, Aug. 11, and full-pad workouts start Thursday afternoon, Aug. 14. A home scrimmage versus the Pawnee Black Bears is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 28, with the starting time to be announced later.
