The inaugural season for the Pawhuska Roadrunners AAA American Legion Baseball apparently reached an early conclusion recently after playing a schedule of fewer than 10 games.

Although the 17-and-under squad was previously expected to play for an Oklahoma Legion championship, its opposition remained uncertain. The rapidly-approaching end of the summer helped hasten the disbanding of the Pawhuska squad.

Danny Mooney, a co-manager of the Roadrunners, said he thought the team showed considerable promise during the abbreviated campaign.

“As of now, we’re planning on trying it again next year,” said Mooney, who represented the local sponsoring AL Post along with another Pawhuskan, Floyd Brown. “We’d like to have a new field by then, but that may take a while longer.”

The Roadrunners’ roster included around 15 players, including recruits from the nearby Osage county communities of Shidler and Burbank.

Duane Dagenais and Danny Chronister were coaches for the team, which reportedly won three of its contests.
