Huskies to host Warriors in districts

BY MIKE ERWINJOURNAL-CAPITAL

Pawhuska High School’s Huskie baseball squad will host the Adair Warriors in 3A District play Thursday at the PHS field on 15th Street.

The two teams are scheduled for a 3 p.m. opening contest that will be followed with a second game, probably starting around 5 p.m.

Coach Brian Edwards’ Huskies bring a 15-7 season record into the best-of-three district series. The visiting Warriors will be coming in with a 12-13 mark.

During one very productive stretch, the Pawhuskans reeled off 12 consecutive victories. The past week saw the Huskies bang out an 18-0 win at Pawnee last Friday and squeeze by Newkirk, 4-2, in a road game on Tuesday, April 22. In a final tuneup, the Huskies fell by a 6-0 score Monday at Blackwell.

This will be the second straight year for PHS to serve as host for its upcoming Oklahoma Class 3A district series. A year ago, the Huskies claimed the first and third games in district triumph over Tulsa’s Lincoln Christian Bulldogs. Rain forced that series to be extended over a five-day period.

A week later, Pawhuska was eliminated in 3A Regional action at Verdigris.
