Lady Huskies facing Miami WarDogs Friday
A blowout victory on the road last week put the Pawhuska Lady Huskies on the verge of punching their ticket for a second state tournament appearance of the high school’s three-year soccer history.
But PHS Head Coach Giovanie Soliano is making sure that the local girls are aware of the weighty significance of the contests coming up. Following a district match Thursday on the home field of Tulsa’s Rogers Ropers, the Lady Huskies will host District 4A-5 rival Miami on Friday for their regular-season home finale.
Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. Friday at Pawhuska’s Ormand Beach Stadium, with Senior Night introductions preceding the showdown.
“The Miami match will determine a lot about our getting in the playoffs,” Soliano said.
“We want to be home for as many games as possible — and I’m glad that one is going to be here, too,” he added.
Last Thursday night, every Lady Huskie player was sent onto the field during a 10-0 district road triumph at Commerce.
The Lady Huskies received two-goal performances from senior midfielder Morgan Waddle and junior forwards Andie Sweeden and Macy Hurd. Also scoring goals against the Lady Tigers was a PHS sophomore quartet comprised of Stephanie Clifton, Karissa Hughes, Genie Herren and Sarah Phillippi.
With a 9-0 lead and 25 minutes remaining on the clock in the second half, Soliano emptied his bench against the host Lady Tigers. The contest reached its conclusion via the “mercy rule” 10 minutes later.
Pawhuska’s preliminary test against Will Rogers High will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday on the Lady Ropers’ home field near the University of Tulsa.
Oklahoma 4A girls’ soccer rankings released Monday have the Pawhuska girls down a notch from last week, to No. 14.
