Here's a word from Commissioner Steve Talburt
I would like to take this opportunity to talk about some of the road funding for Osage County. Osage County has 1,715.27 total certified road miles. District 1 has 975.37 miles, District 2 has 229.25 miles and District 3 has 510.65 miles.
Do you know where your personal and real estate tax dollar goes? Approximately 83 cents to schools, 3 cents to cities, 14 cents to County General funding and 0.00 for County roads.
With that being said, where does the money to fund the roads come from? User fees from gasoline, diesel tax, motor vehicle collections and gross production taxes: Gasoline, CNG, LNG. These 3 are combined and 24% of the 25 cents that are collected. Diesel, 17.9% of 19 cents. Motor Vehicle Fees, 17% of the total collected. Gross production, 10.6% of the total collected.
The funds from that collection are apportioned monthly to counties by statutory formulas consisting of county road miles, land area, population and an estimated cost to replace obsolete/deficient bridges. Once those dollars are sent to the County, the money is then divided again according to the road miles of each of the three districts.
District 2 has 10 full-time employees and 2 part-time employees. One of the many things I am passionate about is: Transparency. I encourage everyone, anytime to call or stop in at the office with any of their questions or concerns. Call us at 918-396-2747.
