Osage County commissioners have set the next Free Dump Day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 22.

The event allows residents to dump a variety of unwanted items without charge. The city of Pawhuska is also a sponsor of the dump day, and District 1 county commissioner Jerry Howerton made a point Tuesday of thanking city government for its help.

“It is as much their dump day as it is ours,” Howerton said.

Osage County emergency management director Jerry Roberts said he is of the opinion there is significant public interest in the activity. He shared that when an item about the upcoming dump day was placed on social media, it got 5,000 hits in a short period of time.

Items that will be accepted during Free Dump Day include: passenger tires without rims (no tire dealers), appliances/furniture, mattresses/box springs, and wood/brush.

Items that will not be accepted include: household trash, household hazardous waste items, commercial or contractor trash, and paint or other chemicals.

Locations where items can be dropped off on Sept. 22 include the District 1 shops in Pawhuska and Barnsdall. The Pawhuska shop is at 8th and Pecan, while the Barnsdall shop is at 506 S. Fifth Street.

Waste materials can also be dropped off at the District 2 shop, 2850 W. 133rd St. N., in Skiatook; and at the District 3 shops in Fairfax and Hominy. The Fairfax shop is at 100 N. 1st St., while the Hominy shop is at 604 Cotton Gin.
