Board introduces new superintendent

The Pawhuska Board of Education, in a special meeting Wednesday morning, introduced new superintendent David Cash and voted 4-0 to create an assistant superintendent position.

The board tabled any vote on whether to fill the assistant superintendent job, and tabled a vote on the possibility of commissioning an external financial audit. These issues were among the elements of the board’s agenda for an hourlong executive session Wednesday morning.

“I’m really very excited, my family’s excited,” Cash told the Journal-Capital. He said he and his family have done some research about Pawhuska, and liked the positive energy they saw represented in materials they reviewed. He is a former Chickasha superintendent.

Cash has reported to his new job, and school district administrative officials have begun briefing him and introducing him within the district.

“I want to welcome Mr. Cash as superintendent,” Pawhuska board member Mike Tolson said Wednesday morning. “I hope everyone will be as encouraged and excited as I am.”

Tolson thanked Byron Cowan, principal of Pawhuska Elementary School, for his service as interim superintendent, and indicated the Board of Education wants to include Cash in ongoing consideration of a possible assistant superintendent hire.

“I look forward to the opportunity for Mr. Cash to be involved in that process,” Tolson said.
