Big Heart Day coming May 26

Big Heart Day will be May 26. It features a variety of activities, including turtle and frog races.

Barnsdall, “the Community with the Big Heart,” celebrates its 65th Annual Big Heart Day this Memorial Day Weekend. The event offers something for everyone, regardless of age.

Big Heart Day will be May 26, and it will be the key element in a three-day schedule of fun activities.

It all starts on May 25, for the golfers who can enjoy a golf tee-off time at 8 a.m. at Adams Golf Course in Bartlesville and luncheon at 12:30 p.m. You can return to Barnsdall for an evening of fun at Gilbert Fieldhouse, where you can enjoy Alumni Basketball games with the ladies playing at 7 p.m. and the men tipping off at 8 p.m. There is a Movie Under the Stars, which will be “Cars 3,” starting at approximately 9 p.m. in front of the Community Center. Just bring your lawn chairs or blankets.

The schedule for May 26 kicks off at 7 a.m. with the kids’ fishing tournament at the City Lake, where all entrants will get a substantial prize. Enjoy a breakfast at the Assembly of God Church.

Everyone’s yearly favorite, the turtle races and frog jumping contest, will be at 9:15 a.m. at 5th and Main, followed by the Big Heart Day Parade at 10:30 a.m. The youngsters can get ready to rumble with sack races and a Hula Hoop contest at the Community Center immediately following the parade or about 11:30 a.m.

At noon, you’re encouraged to sit back, relax and enjoy the preliminaries for this year’s Christian Music Talent Contest, with the final rounds of the contest on Saturday night at 8 p.m. The School Alumni Meeting is at 1:30 p.m. in the old high school gymnasium. Barnsdall will christen its new buffalo statues at 1:40 p.m. At 2 p.m. the Basketball Shooting contest starts in the City Park and the Co-ed Softball game is at 3 p.m. at the high school softball field.

Chase and Missy Gipson Band from Fort Smith, Ark., will start playing at 6:30 p.m. at 4th and Main, with the Christian Music Talent Contest Finals starting at 8 p.m. Chase and Missy will return at about 8:45 p.m. and play until 9:45 p.m.

At about 9:45 p.m. the Big Heart Day annual fireworks display explodes to a fantastic patriotic music background, which will be topped off with a beautiful display of red hearts.

Sunday, May 27, at 2 p.m. is the American Legion Post 227 Memorial Day Service at the Ethel Reece West Cemetery.
