Osage Co. Free Fair starts on Sept. 7

The Osage County Free Fair begins Sept. 7 by taking entries from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Osage County Fairgrounds in Pawhuska. All categories and age groups need to be entered at this time. Everything will be judged after the buildings close for the night, at 7 p.m. This is entry day and exhibits will not be set up for viewing.

This is also set-up day for booths and activities.

Fair exhibits, including livestock, will be entered from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. There are classes for 4-H, OHCE and Open Classes — include everything from house plants, arts and crafts, and cooking arts, to horses and goats. Fair books are available at the Osage County Extension office or the Osage County Shop buildings in the three districts. Entries will be held until Saturday, Sept. 9 at 5 p.m. Please check the schedule for judging and show times.

Booth exhibitors and vendors should set up Thursday, Sept. 7 also. Public service and information booths are available for $10 each. A table and two chairs will be provided. Vendor booths will cost $20 and also include table and chairs. Locations for these booths are on a “first come” basis. Civic groups and clubs, political parties and candidates, and churches are encouraged to have booths at the fair. Booths and vendors will be released on Saturday, Sept. 9, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Admission to the fair and to all activities and events is free. Buildings open each day at 9 a.m. Food concessions will be available each day. Doors will be closed and locked at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7; 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8; and 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9.

There will be things for everyone to do at the fair: vendors, turtle races, livestock shows, talent shows, salsa and chili making contests, and more.

School Day at the Fair will be Sept. 8, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fun for the day includes inflatables and mini rides; games; a magician; and other hands-on activities.

All Osage County schools are invited, including preschools. School exhibits are also welcome in the fair. There is prize money and expense reimbursement for those schools attending or exhibiting. Check the fair book or call for more information, 918-335-7058 or 918-440-0785.

The Midwest Ranch Horse Association show will begin at 9 a.m. Sept. 9, at the Fairgrounds Rodeo Arena. There will be competitions for pee wee, youth, novice, intermediate, junior horse and open classes. Anyone can enter and everyone is welcome. On Sept. 9 of the fair, the Osage County Cattlemen’s Association will hold its Ranch Rodeo. It will also be held at the Fairgrounds Rodeo Arena. Teams from all over Osage County and Green Country will be showing off their ranch skills and having fun doing it.
