RURAL WATER
DISTRICT GRANT
OKLAHOMA CITY — The Osage County Rural Water, Sewer, & Solid Waste Management District No. 3 (District) received approval for a $44,200 Rural Economic Action Plan Grant recently through the Oklahoma Water Resources Board (OWRB) to improve the District’s water infrastructure.
The district owns and operates a distribution system consisting of two standpipes, two booster pump stations, and water mains that serve approximately 270 customers. Due to their age, the existing water storage tanks are in need of rehabilitation. It is proposing to rehabilitate the southernmost standpipe in the system, which is 8 feet in diameter and 112 feet tall, by sand blasting the tank surface and repainting it, and installing a 4-inch gate valve and box. The estimated total cost of the project is $44,200, which is the amount of the requested OWRB REAP Grant.
Joe Freeman, chief of the OWRB’s Financial Assistance Division, calculated that the grant will save the District’s customers $79,560 in principal and interest charges by not having to borrow the project funds. Since 1983 the Water Resources Board has approved over $3.7 billion in loans and grants for water and wastewater infrastructure improvements throughout Oklahoma.
