WYNONA SCHOOL NEWS
(Submitted by Supt. Shelly Shulanberger)
School started Aug. 7. Breakfast begins at 8:05 a.m. Students cannot be at school before 8 a.m. as they will be unsupervised.
We had our ‘Back to School Meet and Greet’ and it was a great success! It was so nice to see how much the students have grown over the summer. We appreciate all the parents who showed up and toured our buildings and classrooms. Unfortunately, we had to cancel the “Well”ebration due to weather. We will let you know at a later date when it is rescheduled.
Reminders about student drop off and pick up. It will be the same as last year. You will enter the parking lot from the south and drop students off in designated area in the north part of the parking lot. Elementary pick up will be at the awning at the south side of the elementary building. Parents may walk up and get your child or a teacher/staff can walk them to your vehicle. For the safety of our students please follow these procedures.
We will have a Project Aware assembly to establish what are expectations are for our students and staff for the school year. The assembly will be in the high school gym at 12:30 p.m. Aug. 14. We are hoping parents will attend as well.
We would like to thank the city of Wynona for the use of their backhoe and the expertise of Larry Dilley, Jason Stansberry and Michael Hopper. They moved numerous large bags of mulch for our playground. All your help is much appreciated.
Softball season is in full swing! We have a great looking team this year. The first game was at Wynona against Olive on Aug. 7. High school played first with the junior high following. Parking for the game should be in the school parking lot not along the fence line due to possible damage to vehicles. Admission will be charged at the games as well. Adults are $5, students $3 and senior citizens 65+ are free. Concession will be available (drinks and snacks). The second game of the season was Tuesday at home against Oilton. The junior high team will have a game on Thursday at home with Hominy to start at 4:30 p.m.
For the high school students that go to tech, it will start Aug. 9. Plan on meeting the bus at 7:15 a.m.
On Aug. 16, Prevent Blindness will be at Wynona School to do vision screenings on all students.
Fall pictures will be Aug. 25.
We are looking forward to a fantastic year! Positivity is the key to a successful school year!
WYNONA FIRE DEPARTMENT BENEFIT SUCCESSFUL
The Wynona Volunteer Fire Department benefit for the family of Patty Hollowell was a success, according to Fire Chief Lance Ryerson. The Department planned the benefit to help out with the costs of Patty’s medical expenses while she was fighting cancer, but she sadly passed away before the benefit. The proceeds were still to help out with the medical and funeral expenses. The Town of Wynona always pulls together to help out whenever there is a need and this time was no different. They served hamburgers, fries and dessert and conducted a silent auction. Thanks to all those who helped out in any way!
