Filing period for mayor’s race starts Aug. 28

BARNSDALL — Candidates for the municipal office of mayor of the city of Barnsdall will file declarations of candidacy beginning at 8 a.m. Aug. 28 at the Osage County Election Board office. Osage County Election Board Secretary Andrea Conner said the filing period ends at 5 p.m. Aug. 30.

The office will be filled in the nonpartisan special election scheduled Nov. 14.

Brock Moore submitted his letter of resignation as Barnsdall mayor on June 9 to City Attorney John Heskett. His last day in office was July 31.

Moore has been mayor for the past two years and served six years on the City Council. Moore tendered his resignation because he is moving to Pawhuska.

“I look forward to seeing what the next chapter in life holds for me. Barnsdall will always be home,” Moore wrote in his resignation letter.

In the letter, Moore said he believed Barnsdall was a better community now than it was when he took office as mayor two years ago.

He cited the water treatment plant update, street resurfacing and adding emergency medical service as reasons he believes Barnsdall is a better community now. The updated water treatment plant provides quality drinking water to Barnsdall customers and those in Rural Water District 5 and Rural Water District 15.

Barnsdall officials worked with Osage County Commissioners to house Samaritan EMS in Barnsdall, providing Barnsdall and Osage County with improved service.

“And with the sales tax increase voted by the residents of Barnsdall in April 2015, now we are able to resurface streets that greatly needed to be repaired,” Moore wrote.
