Planning is underway for the Osage County Free Fair, scheduled for Sept. 7-9 at the Osage County Fairgrounds in Pawhuska. The theme for this year’s event is “Discover the Prairie.”

Open Classes, 4-H and OHCE exhibits will be accepted from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 7. The accepted items include everything from baking and candy making, arts & crafts, sewing, plants, garden produce, antiques & collectible and more. And, of course there will be livestock exhibits with contests and horse shows.

All Osage County residents are eligible to enter and take part in all of the activities. Entrance to all events will be free to the public.

There will also be booth spaces for commercial vendors and for public service groups. Commercial vendor spaces are $20 each and not for profit booths are free. Schools in the county are also encouraged to take part by displaying art and activities done by their students and staff and to bring their students, faculty and staff to the fair on “School Day” Friday. Prizes will be awarded and expenses paid for those schools taking part in the fair.

A magician is lined up for Friday along with ther hands-on exhibits for kids. It is also hoped that some local musical entertainment can be found to entertain the public on Friday night. More events and activities are in the works and will be announced later.

A Talent Show will be held on Saturday afternoon along with a Chili Cook-off & Salsa Making Contest.

Fair Books will be available this week at the Osage County Extension Office at 7th and Kihekah in Pawhuska and at the three Osage County District shops. Also, watch for updates and announcements on our Facebook page: Osage County Free Fair 2017.

Please put the Osage County Free Fair on your events calendar and plan to attend. Help the Fair Board to grow and improve out County Fair. Everyone’s involvement and attendance will help to make an old event new and great again.
