Lee next principal at PHS
Pawhuska High School Assistant Principal Lauri Lee will become become principal for the 2017-2018 school year, the local board of education decided last week.
The promotion of Lee will fill the position being vacated by Joe Sindelar, the fourth-year PHS principal who tendered his resignation earlier this year — effective June 30.
Lee is completing her second year as high school vice principal and the Pawhuska School District’s assistant athletic director. She has served as the district’s athletic director since early 2016.
The superintendent of Pawhuska Public Schools, Dr. Janet Neufeld, said at least one high school adminsitrative position still needs to be filled for next year.
“We will be hiring an assisitant principal and an athletic director,” Neufeld said.
Lee also has been PHS Lady Huskies’ head basketball coach for the past two seasons. She led the PHS girls to three postseason wins in her first season as head coach, advancing to the 2A Regional finals as a district runnerup. This season, the Lady Huskies won a Class 2A district title before losing two straight at the Regional.
Prior to her arrival in Pawhuska, Lee had served as an administrator and assistant coach in the Morris School District.
Also at last week’s meeting, school board members approved re-employment of Danny Chronister as the district’s technology director for the 2017-18 academic year.
The 2017 Pawhuska High School honor graduates were also revealed during the April 10 session. Madelyn Priest will be the PHS class valedictorian and Tristen Tucker is the 2017 salutatorian.
Announcement of the honor students came during Superintendent Neufeld’s report on the May 15 Val/Sal Dinner. In addition to the school district-sponsored function, the two students are to be recognized by the City of Pawhuska and Pawhuska City Council at a May 1 luncheon, scheduled from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Dave Landrum Community Center.
As part of the city-sponsored event, Priest will be named as honorary mayor and Tucker will be the honorary vice mayor. After being given a tour of the city departments in the afternoon, the PHS honorees will be presented with plaques during that evening’s City Council meeting, which starts at 5:30 p.m.
