Since the temperatures have dropped, the Osage Hills Hiking Club is switching to a “cool weather” Sunday afternoon schedule for its hikes from September to May, which will allow our church-going neighbors an opportunity to join in.

If there is some sort of a major conflict for a hike, the club will let you know in advance what it plans to do. Special “members only” hikes will be scheduled separately (for example, special hikes, overnight camping, calm water canoeing/kayaking, fishing, etc.).

The next hike is Oct. 23. Registration will start at 1 p.m. at “the Barn” in Osage Hills State Park. The Barn area is on the left side about 1½ miles in from the entrance, just after the turn-off on the right for Lake Look-Out. The hike starts at 1:30 p.m. There is only one hike being offered this time and it will be for moderate-to-difficult for experienced hikers.

It’s a 5-mile round-trip hike. The terrain will be hilly with narrow trails. It will be moderately paced with frequent water stops. The hike should last 3 to 4 hours.

Bring hiking boots, hat, sunscreen, bug repellent, lots of water, rain gear, snacks and some food.
