The 75th annual edition of the Cavalcade Rodeo is scheduled to begin Monday, July 12, with queen orientation and queen horsemanship activities.

The first rodeo performance is set for Tuesday morning, July 13.

"It's a huge deal," said Cavalcade chairman Jeff Bute.

A year ago, Cavalcade made modest adjustments to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. It also made arrangements to respond to an outbreak of equine illness. But Cavalcade went forward, and there were no reports of COVID-19 transmission as a result, Bute said.

Bute said Cavalcade organizers found out in 2020 that the event is actually well-suited to a situation where people need to socially distance. The majority of the elements of the overall event were already being held in settings where plenty of space was available, he said.

"I am definitely hoping for one of our top events," Bute said last week. He said Cavalcade is anticipating a strong band lineup and a large rodeo contestant pool.

A morning rodeo performance will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 13. Additionally, the schedule reflects queen interviewing at 2:30 p.m., a queen auction and fashion show at 7:30 p.m. in downtown Pawhuska, and a downtown street dance at 8:30 p.m. sponsored by the Pawhuska Chamber of Commerce.

Another morning rodeo performance is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, designated as "Super Hero Day". An evening rodeo performance is scheduled for 7 p.m. with the theme of "Cavalcade versus Cancer." The performance is to be followed by a dance under the stars.

On Thursday, July 15, the theme of the 9 a.m. rodeo performance will be "Throwback Thursday." It will also be "Kiddo Day" at the Fairgrounds Indoor Arena. The 7 p.m. evening rodeo performance will be themed "Night of the Cowboy." A dance under the stars will follow.

On Friday, July 16, the theme of the 9 a.m. rodeo performance will be "Cavalcade versus Cancer" and the theme of the 7 p.m. rodeo performance will be "Night of the Native American," sponsored by Osage Casinos.

The annual Cavalcade Parade is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, July 17, in downtown Pawhuska. The evening rodeo performance that day is to be themed "Night of the Patriot."

The finals performance is set for 10 a.m. Sunday, July 18.
