Did it drop below freezing at your house?

Misty Farber

Week of April 21-28

I hope everyone has been staying warm, as the nighttime temperatures were scheduled to drop into the 30s this week, including a possible freeze Tuesday night.

The Barnsdall Chamber of Commerce met last week and discussed several items on the agenda, with many exciting updates to plans for Bigheart Day. The Bigheart Day planning is well underway as the committee completes its final touches to the fun-filled weekend. The fireworks are ordered for the evening display, and the musical guests have been scheduled. The T-shirts for the fishing derby have been designed, and trophies have been picked up. This year, the Chamber has creatively designed banners to hang up around town, promoting and publicizing Bigheart Day.

In other news, the Easter Egg Hunt was reportedly a popular event, with the weather making it a perfect day for the kids. A big thank-you to the Chamber for planning and hosting this event for the kids on the Saturday before Easter.

In school news, the basketball floor has been finished at Gilbert’s Fieldhouse. Baccalaureate has been scheduled for 6 p.m. May 2, and graduation will be at the Bartlesville Community Center at 7 p.m. May 13.

This week marks the third week of the month, and the Barnsdall food pantries will be distributing food to anyone in need. The Lighthouse Family Worship Center (LFWC) will be having a mobile pantry from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, April 21. The Free Will Baptist Shirley Cook Memorial Food Bank will be open from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 24.

It is an exciting time for the high school baseball and slow-pitch softball teams, as they participate in district tournaments this week.

The high school baseball districts are scheduled this week, and the Panthers played their last regular-season game against Copan on Tuesday. The baseball team has the honor of hosting this year’s district tournament, as it plays Foyil and Regent Prep. Please see the Baseball Facebook page for a complete schedule of games. Good luck, Panthers!

The Class 2A Slow-Pitch District tournament is also scheduled for this week. Woodland will host the district tournament for Barnsdall, Frontier, and Okay. Please see the Barnsdall High School Facebook page for a complete schedule of games. Good luck, Lady Panthers!

As a reminder, please check the Barnsdall athletic teams' Facebook page and the school Facebook page for updates and cancellations to all extra-curricular activities and events.

Don’t forget to take advantage of the annual free Countywide Dump Day on Saturday, April 24, at the Barnsdall County Barn. Community members can dispose of approved items from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For questions about the dump day or to learn more about what items have been approved, please call 1-800-259-1570.
