Pawhuska, Osage County offer free dumping
Pawhuska municipal government will be offering a series of free dump days for residents of the city.
The first free dump day will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 10, according to Street Superintendent Jeremy Smith. The waste collection point will be the city shop on Lynn Avenue.
The city will attempt to hold the free dump days on the first Saturday of each month, through early September, Smith said. The dump day for April will not be held on April 3 because of the Easter holiday weekend, he said.
Persons delivering waste items to the city shop should bring with them a photo ID and a municipal utility bill to establish that they are Pawhuska residents, Smith said.
Examples of items that are not accepted are contractor waste, roofing waste, tires, paint cans and dead animals.
The free dump day is an extension of a service that the city normally provides for nominal fees at the city shop from 1-4 p.m. every Monday through Friday.
Steve Hughes, the city’s code officer, said this is a chance for residents to get rid of old TVs, mattresses and other unwanted furniture items. He said that probably the most unusual thing he can recall anyone asking to discard was an upright piano. The city accepted it.
“As code officer, I am really trying to encourage people,” Hughes said. “Anything to help us get Pawhuska cleaned up.”
For questions about additional details of the city’s free dump days, call City Hall (918-287-3040) and ask them to put you in touch with Jeremy Smith or Steve Hughes.
