Misty Farber

Week of Dec. 30-Jan 5

Happy New Year!

Christmas Break is almost over for Barnsdall Schools, and the students will start back to school on Monday, Jan. 4. As students begin the second semester, parents can monitor their grades through the parent portal. Student grades are posted weekly and can be monitored through the portal at https://ok.wengage.com/barnsdall. The parent portal gives you access to grades, attendance, and lunch balances. If you need help accessing the portal or need a username and password, please email Jeff Lay at jlay@barnsdallschools.org.

As a reminder, the Osage Nation Education Department offers several programs assisting students academically and financially throughout the school year. The School Support Program provides academic services and assistance to all students who are legally enrolled members of the Osage Nation. Students who are enrolled in grades pre-K through 12 and live in Osage County are eligible to apply. The program will provide an advocate to monitor your child’s grades and attendance, and assist in tutoring support if needed. Additionally, the College Entrance Assistance Program (CEAT) provides students with financial assistance for ACT/SAT exams, college application fees, and test preparation materials. This program is offered to students in grades nine through 12. For more information on these programs and to sign your child up, please contact the education department at 918-287-5300 or email education@osagenation-nsn.gov.

Students who are interested in registering for the Feb. 6 ACT date have until Friday, Jan. 15, to sign up. The ACT is an entrance exam used by colleges and universities to make admissions decisions. The ACT test fee is $55. ACT offers fee waivers for up to four exams to students who qualify for free and reduced lunches. The Osage Nation will also help pay for an ACT for students in grades nine through 12. Please visit the ACT website to register for the test at www.act.org.

The junior high and high school basketball programs will resume their schedules this week. The junior high will host Pawhuska on Monday, Jan. 4, and the high school basketball teams will travel to Nowata on Tuesday, Jan. 5. Junior high games begin at 5 p.m., while high school games start at 6:30 p.m.

The Barnsdall City Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5,  for its regularly scheduled monthly meeting. All City Council meetings are held at City Hall unless otherwise noted.

Barnsdall City Hall has made it easy for citizens to pay their utility bills from home. The account can be paid online at paystation.com/pay/barnsdall-pwa, by phone at (918) 847-2980, or by drop box at City Hall.
