Lala D. Toon

Lala D. Toon passed away peacefully, Tuesday, July 14, 2020 while in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born on April 27, 1961 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma to Billie Joe and Gerldean Bessy Swift.

Lala received her education early in life at the Barnsdall High School. When she was a senior in High School she welcomed her first son Steven Frakes and a few years later her daughter Anita Jo Shipman. Lala was always very proud of her children. And when she married the love of her life, David Bruce Toon on March 18, 1986 she was happy to become the mom of Darold Toon and Melinda (Toon) Powell. Lala always had a heart to help others, and was a caretaker to many. So, it was no surprise that once her children left home, that she stepped up and adopted a young boy named Josh Toon and raised him for many years.

Lala was always known for her cooking, especially her homemade cinnamon rolls and Christmas candy. Christmas was always an important holiday for her. A few of her hobbies and favorite pass times included fishing, camping, swimming and spending time with her grandchildren. She was also very dedicated to her animals and they were always an important part of her life, especially her dog Dinky.

She loved God and would attend church when she was able. It was around 2016 when she was baptized by Pastor Curtis Leland. Lala was a selfless person who made every attempt to put others first in life.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, David B. Toon, parents, Billie Joe and Gerldean Swift, one brother, Bill Swift, one nephew, Drew Newton, brother-in-law, Butch Newton, Sister-in-law, Connie Swift, one niece and two great nephews.

Left to cherish her memories are her children; Darold Toon, Steven Frakes and his wife Regina, Josh Toon, Melinda (Toon) Powell and Anita Shipman and her husband Jason. One sister; Anna Mae (Newton) Satterwhite and husband Dewitt. Two brothers; Sam and Jesse Swift. Five grandchildren; Lecrisha Dawn Powell, Makaliah Powell, Joshua Toon and Ryan and Addison Shipman. Four great grandchildren; Jayden, Taleiyah, Elias and Xzavian and one on the way. Her special companion and best friend “Dinky” along with several nieces, nephews and other relatives who will miss her dearly.

A visitation will be held at the Shipman Chapel in Wagoner on Monday, July 20, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and a ceremony to honor her life will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Shipman Chapel and she will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery.
