Remember the NHS blood drive on Jan. 28

Barnsdall students are enjoying a three-day school week, as the teachers had a Professional Development day on Monday while the students had a day off. Please note, next week school will be in session on Friday, Jan. 31, resulting in students attending school all five days that week. Jan. 31 will be the first of three Fridays the students will have to attend this semester to ensure all instructional days are met on the school calendar. The students will also attend school on Friday, Feb. 28, and Friday, March 27.

The Barnsdall Chamber of Commerce held its monthly meeting Tuesday, Jan. 14 and discussed several items on the agenda. Everyone reported the Christmas event in December went great. The local Dollar General Store is currently going through renovations to accommodate more refrigeration that will eventually convert the store to a Dollar General Market. Also on the agenda was Osage County Commissioner Randall Jones, as the guest speaker reporting on his first year in office. The next Chamber of Commerce meeting with be next month, Tuesday, Feb. 11 at noon.

The Bigheart Day Planning Committee also met last week and discussed several items. The committee discussed a new goal of consolidating all activities to be moved closer to the Community Center. They also discussed the basketball shooting contest and are in need of a coordinator for that activity. If you are interested in coordinating the basketball contest, please contact Claud Rosendale at 918-847-2202. The next committee meeting is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 10 at 6:30 p.m.

The Barnsdall High School sophomores will be touring Tri County Technology Center in Bartlesville on Thursday, Jan. 23. The students selected two programs of their choice to learn more about and tour. Students who are interested in attending Tech next year will apply in February.

The Barnsdall National Honor Society students are hosting a blood drive on Tuesday, Jan. 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the high school gym. Please support the students and help build the total amount of units collected as the students reach for their goal of 201 units to receive a $2,750 scholarship. No appointment is necessary, but appointments can be made to move ahead in the line. A link will be provided on the high school Facebook page to make an appointment or you can call the high school at 918-847-2271 to schedule an appointment. T-shirts and refreshments will be given to all donors.

The high school wrestling team will travel to Pawhuska for a weekend wrestling tournament starting Friday, Jan. 24. Both junior and high school wrestling will then host Bartlesville in a dual at home on Tuesday, Jan. 28.

The junior high school basketball team is busy this week, hosting two games. The junior high team will be hosting Caney Valley at home on Thursday, Jan. 23, while the high school basketball team will be participating in the Caney Valley Tournament all week. The junior high team will also host Bowring at home on Monday, Jan. 27. Please check the Barnsdall High School Facebook page for an up to date tournament bracket.
