Barnsdall T-shirts available for $15 apiece
BARNSDALL — Barnsdall teachers and staff have started back to school, participating in professional development and spending countless hours preparing their classrooms for the upcoming school year. A huge thankyou goes out to the Barnsdall First Baptist Church for the wonderful lunch that is prepared every year for all of the teachers and staff, followed with a variety of desserts and door prizes. It is such a nice treat and a good way to start off the school year for teachers on their first day back after summer break.
Johnson-O’Malley school supplies have been delivered to the schools and will be ready for pickup during the back-to-school night on Aug. 8. Students will receive everything on their school supply list except the gender-specific items such as wipes, Ziplock baggies and sanitizer. Thank you to the wonderful parent volunteers who organize and order these supplies for the students each year. It is greatly appreciated.
The Barnsdall Chamber of Commerce meets on Aug. 13 at noon for its first meeting of the month. Lunch will be provided and an agenda will be emailed out this week. The Osage County Tourism Committee will also be meeting on Tuesday after the chamber meeting.
The National Honor Society students are selling cardinal red and gray Barnsdall T-shirts for $15. Orders forms will go home with students on the first day of school and are due back on Aug. 15.
Students attending Tulsa Community College for concurrent enrollment this school year are invited to a student orientation on Aug. 13 at the West Campus in Tulsa. The students will learn how to use the TCC online portal, obtain their TCC ID and buy their textbooks. Students who will be receiving a tribal scholarship to attend TCC may charge their textbooks at the bookstore. TCC classes start Aug. 19 in Hominy and online.
If you were unable to attend the National Honor Society blood drive this week, the American Red Cross will be hosting another blood drive next week from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Barnsdall City Hall on Aug. 14. The American Red Cross partners with Barnsdall High School and selects one senior who will receive a college scholarship to be used towards a college of his choice. The scholarship amount is determined based on the number of units collected throughout the year from the Barnsdall community blood drives. Last year, the American Red Cross collected 87 units from all of the community blood drives and was able to provide a $500 scholarship to a senior. The goal this year is to collect 201 units throughout the year in order to provide a local senior with a $2,750 scholarship. Scholarship recipients are announced at the senior assembly in May.
