Make time to read with your kids

The junior high and high school teams will travel to Shidler on Friday. The first game will begin at 4:30 p.m.

Your child and their education are very important. Please remember to make it a habit to discuss with your child what they are learning at school, practice reading and math skills, review homework, review graded work or notes teachers sent home, and make sure they are at school everyday and on time. If parents/guardians make education an important issue, then students will as well. Remind your child if they miss school to collect the missed work and return it the following day. State testing is coming upon us quickly.

The third quarter attendance incentive is going to eat pizza and bowling. In order to receive an invitation, a student cannot have more than one unexcused absence and no more than one tardy. The time frame is Jan. 14- March 13. Don’t forget every three tardies counts as an absence.

I would like to thank the Osage Nation Prevention Office for training our staff on suicide prevention using the “Lifelines” program. I believe with their help, our staff are properly trained to recognize a distraught student and know the proper procedures to help them, whether it be to talk with them, refer them to an administrator, or refer to a counseling agent for additional interventions. The Osage Nation Prevention Office began teaching our high school students the student portion of the “Lifelines” program on Jan. 14. They will also teach Drug and Alcohol prevention and Violence to the eleventh- and twelfth-grade students. I believe in today’s society, these topics are very important!

This month is School Board Appreciation month. I would like to say thank you to our board members for their dedication and support to Wynona Public Schools. Thank you: Ashleigh Hough, Carol Robinson, Lucy Randall, Samantha Gillett, and Amanda Stansberry.

We are wrapping up the latest bond our wonderful citizens passed in 2017. Mullins Plumbing has been working on replacing the water pipes and updating the showers in the athletic locker rooms. This was the last project that was passed in the bond. We previously replaced the carpet in the high school, purchased new lockers and updated the playground. We definitely could not have accomplished any of these items without the support of Wynona Citizens. Thank you.

Wynona Yellow Jackets are continuously working on positive behavior, always be respectful, responsible and kind.
