John Edward Hanna III
On Friday, November 30, 2018, John Edward Hanna III, father of seven children, passed away at the age of 71 while surrounded by family. John was born on May 10th, 1947 to Gladys and John Hanna II, in Oklahoma City. He was raised in Pawhuska, OK. Through his school days, he worked in his family’s bowling alleys and loved playing pinball.
In 1965, John married Lila Cass and had four children, John, Robert, Andy, and Melissa. He worked hard in the oilfields in Oklahoma with his uncle and on an offshore oil rig in England. While on leave he would travel throughout Europe. He fondly recounted these times and could tell you the exact street where his favorite restaurants were located. He eventually left the oilfield and became an EMT. In 1981, he married Linda Boulanger and had three children, Angela, Adam, and Erica.
John had a passion for good conversations on his CB radio, motorcycles, his dogs, and fishing—he put fish on the dinner table at least three times a week. He was known for his legendary wit, humor, tall tales, ingenuity, and empathy for others. In a final act of generosity, John donated his body to the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine to advance the practice of medicine.
John was preceded in death by his father, his mother, former wife, Lila, and granddaughter, Ashley. He is survived by his former wife Linda, his seven children, numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Instead of flowers, the family requests that any remembrances be made to The Journey Home, http://www.thejourneyhomeok.com, a wonderful hospice organization who helped care for John through his last days.
