Annette (Ann) Blanton Spence

Annette (Ann) Blanton Spence, of Bartlesville, OK, died at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 18, 2018. Ann was born July 30, 1927, in El Reno, Oklahoma, to Beatrice and John Blanton.

The family moved to Osage County in 1937, where her father ranched near Pershing. Ann attended Pershing Grade School and Pawhuska High School. She received a BA degree in Sociology from the University of Oklahoma, where she was president of the Kappa Alpha Theta fraternity, a member of Mortar Board, and a recipient of the gold Leitseizer award given to the outstanding senior woman.

On October 22, 1949, she married Kenneth Lee Spence and was married 59 years before his death. After settling in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, she was an active member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Chapter P of P.E.O., and the Osage County Cattlewomen. Ann loved playing golf, tennis, bridge, and most importantly, cheering for her beloved OU Sooners.

Ann worked as a fashion consultant for Doncaster for fifteen years and was the Social Service Supervisor at DHS for 17 years. She was the first woman elected to the Board of Directors of the Pawhuska Golf and Country Club.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband. Survivors include her son, John B. Spence of Richmond, Virginia; her son K. Scott Spence and his wife Gayle of Houston, Texas; her daughter, Sue Courtney and her husband Ron of Bartlesville, OK; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Mary Blanton Kennedy of Midland, Texas, and Johnna Blanton Curle of Ingram, Texas.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 22, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Bartlesville, OK.
