Deacon Sam Q. Campbell, Jr. w/pic

Deacon Sam Q. Campbell, Jr., 60, passed from this world to the Lord on August 8th, 2018 after several years of declining health.

Sam was born September 5th, 1957, in New Orleans, to Sam Q. and Theresa Joan (Parker) Campbell. The family moved to Wynona, OK when Sam was 11.

Sam graduated from Wynona High School, attended Northern University in Tonkawa, Oklahoma, passed 3rd Class FCC testing and became a Disc Jockey for Osage County’s only radio station, KXVQ - Pawhuska. Later in life, Sam was employed for several years by the Housing Authority of Osage County leaving as Director of Maintenance.

Sam was an avid reader. He loved world history, philosophy and the study of the world’s religions. He became an Oblate at Saint Joseph’s Benedictine Monastery. His love of religion proved a valuable resource when he was ordained a Deacon of The Catholic Diocese of Tulsa in 2001. Sam taught Adult Religious Education for the Parishes of Pawhuska, Barnsdall and Shidler for several years. He remained active in the parishes until 2007 when he withdrew from public ministry. Taking up the role of intercessor, Sam continued to fulfill his faith’s work.

Sam is survived by son, Joseph Q. Campbell, Tulsa; daughter Sarah J. Campbell and granddaughters Serena and Malia, Pawhuska; mother Joan Campbell, Broken Arrow; father Sam Campbell, Albuquerque, NM; sister Cindy Llewellyn, cousin J. G. (Jay) Kepler of Bartlesville and others.

Services will be held Friday, August 17 at The Church of Saint Benedict, 2200 W Ithica St, Broken Arrow, OK -Rosary @ 10 am, Funeral Mass at 11 am, with graveside service@ Calvary Cemetery, Tulsa. Moore’s Funeral, 918-663-2233, www.moorefuneral.com.
