BARNSDALL — A single-vehicle rollover accident early Sunday morning near Birch Lake resulted in the death of a 21-year-old Barnsdall man.

Jacob Lanphear was the driver of a pickup that went off a county road and overturned approximately 1 1/2 miles south of town. The accident occurred shortly after midnight, officials said.

According to reports from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the truck left the roadway and slid more than 300 feet before rolling over. Lanphear was partially ejected through the driver’s side window and pinned beneath the wreckage for about 15 minutes, according to the OHP.

Emergency medical personnel from Skiatook pronounced Lanphear dead at the scene as a result of internal injuries, according to the OHP. He was not wearing a seat belt, the report stated.

The crash victim was a 2013 graduate of Barnsdall High School, where he played on the football, basketball and baseball teams. More recently, Lanphear had been training to be a professional bull rider, according to acquaintances.

Cause of the crash remains under investigation, troopers said.
