Funeral services were held Tuesday at Bethesda Church in Oklahoma City for Mary Peppard Rowton, who died Thursday, Feb. 18, at age 83.

Mary Mae was born in Canyon, Texas, to Eugene and Ella (Sanders) Peppard Mary. She attended Southwestern Assemblies of God Bible College, where she met her future husband, James Lee Rowton. The Rev. Rowton pastored churches in Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas and New Mexico.

The Rowtons spent many years at churches in the Pawhuska area. Mary loved the ministry and enjoyed playing the piano. She was faithful to her calling as a minister’s wife, a mother and a grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Rev. James L. Rowton; son Jim ( Lindy) Rowton; daughters Beth Ann Rowton, and Nancy (Brian) Smith; sister Shirley Mills; 8 grandchildren: Brooke Ferris, Joshua (Leslie) Rowton, Caleb Rowton, Lacy (Michah) Hensley, Lindsey (Cody) Eidson, Brian, Lauren and Brice Smith; and 7 great-grandchildren.
