ATV accident fatal to area 13-year-old

A 13-year-old Bartlesville boy died Saturday afternoon following an all-terrain vehicle accident in eastern Osage County.

Burkley McKay Hansen was fatally injured in the crash, which occurred on private property near County Road 2145 and U.S. Highway 60.

According to a report by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the youth was operating the ATV around 12:19 p.m. Saturday when it struck a fence and collided with a tree. After being taken by ambulance to Bartlesville’s Jane Phillips Medical Center, he was pronounced dead from trunk internal injuries.

OHP said that the juvenile was thrown approximately 10 feet from the 2003 Yamaha ATV he had been driving. The patrol noted that a helmet was not in use at the time of the accident. Site of the crash was approximately 5 miles west of the Washington County line, officials said.

The victim was a seventh-grader in the Bartlesville Public School District, where counselors have been available to assist other students. Funeral services were pending.
